Just Transition from Fossil Fuels

Together, we will create a green future for the Valley and all of Los Angeles by building green affordable housing, creating millions of good-paying union jobs, and prioritizing our health/well-being. In the City Council, I will fight to bring pass a People’s Green New Deal for all of Los Angeles. I am committed to seeing the closure of the Sun Valley Generating Station, as well as ways to decrease and cap the Sun Valley Land Fill.

CD6 has a long history of being offered up as a sacrifice zone to corporate pollution. Our communities have been subject to waste and pollution by major corporations and billionaires, and it’s working families that have paid the price. We are subject to the waste and pollution of high earners at the expense of our poorer constituents. The people of the Valley have the same right to breathe clean air and drink clean water.

Our neighborhoods are pushed up against the Van Nuys and Whiteman airport, a private airport that drops deadly air pollution from private planes of billionaires onto our homes, schools, parks, and businesses. We have the Sun Valley Landfill, the Tujunga Superfund Site, lots of waste and business pollution bumped up against residential areas, and a lack of community infrastructure to meet the needs of the residents. The use of fossil fuels is harmful to our environment and our existence as humans on this planet. Working-class communities and communities of color shouldn’t have to be subject to even more pollution. We must and will fight for protection from environmental racism.

We are going to end pollution in the Valley. We are going to bring green affordable housing to our communities. We are going to create millions of high-paying union jobs in the district. That is what it means to fight for a Green New Deal in Los Angeles.

We will fight for:

Just Transition from Fossil Fuels

  • A just transition to 100% Renewable Energy by 2030 that will protect current fossil fuel workers

Fare-free Transit for All

  • Invest in high-quality, safe, fare-free transit for all

Reduce Pollution from Cars

  • Build more bike lanes, rapid bus transit, and walkable communities

Green New Deal for Housing

  • Create city programs to transition 100% of existing offices, housing, etc. to be completely powered by clean energy at no cost to residents

  • Build new, affordable green housing while protecting residents from gentrification and displacement

Increase Tree Cover

  • Double tree coverage across the district to provide shade and cooling to the hottest parts of the district. Trees have been proven to bring down the overall temperature, especially during heat waves.

A Climate Resilient LA

  • Increase climate resiliency by creating a network of cooling and resource centers

End Food Deserts

  • End Food insecurity by supporting networks of community gardens, food co-ops, and more

Tackle Environmental Racism Head-on

  • Address environmental racism by requiring every project to increase climate justice and community health.

End Pollution of the Valley

  • We will begin by closing the Sun Valley Generating Station and capping the Sun Valley Landfill

I’m not waiting until after we get into office to take action. Our campaign was proud to sign on to a movement letter to demand SoCalGas stop price gouging. It is unacceptable for corporations to raise prices on working families just to add to historic profits.

We will never stop fighting for climate justice for our communities. In office, I will lead on ensuring a livable future for our families. We are fighting for the places we call home and the people we love, and I will never give up.
